Overdrive Special Guitar Amplifier

I’ve been a Nembrini Audio fan for a while now, since they all sound and feel amazing in every single aspect (gain texture, dynamics/sensitivity, frequencies, definition)

Being a solo studio artist making instrumental music, I’ve been on a quest for years to find MY OWN lead tone that would truly let speak my soul and allow me to use articulations, attack, softness/smoothness and gain texture in a single preset, without having to touch a knob. Here’s where the Overdrive Special comes into play and changes EVERYTHING! I finally got my DREAM TONE! I use it as my main amp for clean and crunch tones, combined with a few other plugins from different developpers for Stompboxes, Cab and Post-FX, in order to achieve ANY sound I have in mind. Here’s the true magic of a plugin rig. Just find YOUR amp, the one that feels 100% right to you (in my case, THIS ONE)… then try adding components from your other plugins that you already own to create a unique signal chain. Then, compare your new custom rig setup to any other amp sim suite endorsed by popular artists… and you’ll be blown away how better your custom rig will sound.. and feel!

This amp CUTS like a Marshall, CLEANS UP like a Fender, is SENSITIVE like a baby, and that makes you feel like you’re truly playing a tube amp. There’s no word to properly describe it… you GOT to TRY IT youself!!!

The overdriven sounds never mask your guitar tones and it feels very touch sensitive. The cleans are quite unique: I can get great biting, grainy highs that remind me of plenty of 1960's garage bands. But disengage the Bright switch and you are back to a smooth Fender clean.

In an environment of heavy, extreme amp sims (I have a few), I love that Nembrini is making these vintage style amp sims. We need some more Fenders and Valcos please!

I've been a fan of a certain Dumble sound for a very long time. I remember seeing Dumbles onstage with Larry Carlton and Robben Ford and having heard them up close.

I've been able to find a few really good clones to profile but when it comes to finding "that sound" in a plug-in, I've been severely disappointed. Until now! Igor Nembrini has done an outstanding job with the NA Overdrive Special.

This amp is not a forgiving amp so if you make a mistake, you will hear it. But if you have your right hand touch under control then this amp will reward you with wonderful dynamics that is a joy to play with.

Id does take a while to get the topology of the amp since it's a bit different than the ordinary Fender or Marshall, but when you do, there are so many sounds to be had. The Mid control is very effective so you get a lot of variety from small adjustments, so until you get that right you may not get what you're after.

One important factor with this amp is the input control. If your guitar is a bit too hot for the clean sounds you need, then you just turn this down a bit. If you need more "juice" to get just a bit more overdrive you just turn it up until you're happy.

The speaker models are OK for most sounds, but if you want to use external IRs you can do that. And it's VERY easy to do. The IR browser is refreshingly simple and effective compared to most of the competition and you can load and mix up to three IRs.

The Nembrini version of the Overdrive Special is the very first plugin, which gave me - after having learned how to tame this „beast“ and adjust it properly - an impression, why an ODS really is so legendary.

Sonically a very flexible amp, although the basic character is very American voiced, some sort of Blackface on Steroids. Opposite to most other amps you can adjust two gain stages independently, which allows some more different overdrive tones, as the cascaded stages affect each other.

Excellent clean to typical later 70‘s, early 80‘s overdrive sounds, a lot of treble and transparency, but also enough bass and (maybe even more important for good overdrive sounds) mids, and a very unique sounding, intense harmonics reproduction.

Not the right amp for really aggressive, brutal, heavy sounds but for almost everything else, rather the typical Carlton, Ritenour, Ford, Sayce tone.

Long overdue than this legendary amp gets a good simulation plugin. If you consider the price of the real amp, if you manage to get one somewhere, the price of the plugin is anyway a bargain.
